It may be hard to believe that we DO have rainy days with less than optimal weather for enjoying outdoor activities along the Coast, but we do have this thing called ‘winter’.
As I mention in my article about weather, there are very few days where the sun does not shine at all. But if you have to make plans and don’t want to risk mother nature’s weather roulette, here are some safe bets to stay entertained indoors.

Start your day off with a leisurely Brunch
Athenians know how to enjoy a leisurely meal and the stylish venues along the Coast are the perfect place to do just that! Most places do a Brunch menu every day of the week, but some are more traditional and stick with weekends only.
Got Kids? Hit up an Indoor Play Area
The two popular spots with the Glyfada moms are Balux Cafe – House Project and Oliver.
Eat, Play, Shop at the Metro Mall
Ahhh the Metro Mall. It’s a nostalgic place for me because when it first opened my husband and I used to go there often. There was a Taco Bell (closed now) and Cinnabon (still there), so yeah… fat kids at the mall.
This is your typical MALL- shopping, dining and a cinema. Its location on the red metro line makes it very convenient to get to and a popular destination for teens.

Go Bowling
Besides bowling, Blanos in Glyfada also has arcade games, billiards, ping pong and more!

Curl up with a book at the Stavros Niarchos Center
A ginormous library is currently being installed inside the Stavros Niarchos Cultural Center. BUT the common areas are already all open to the public, including use of the computers and numerous workshops that they host.
They have local artists on display and lots of areas to just hangout with a good book or your kindle.

Take in a Movie
Visit the Benaki Toy Museum
This branch of the world famous Benaki Museum opened in 2017. Check out some old time toys and classic Greek games on display at this museum on the Coast.

Eugenides Foundation Planetarium
The Athens Planetarium is located just off the major intersection of Sygrou and Poseidonos-where the city meets the sea.
Check with them about what is playing and even if the narration is in Greek (and you don’t speak Greek), it’s still a really cool experience.

Get a Massage
I put together a list of some smaller boutique massage parlors that hopefully will be able to squeeze you in for a good ol’ rainy day rub-down if the weather is keeping you indoors.
Live Greek Music and Dancing
End your day off in a classical Greek Taverna with live Rebetiko music and dancing at the Cuckoo’s Nest (Η Φωλιά του Κούκου) in Glyfada.
Call ahead for reservations- they open at 9pm, but things don’t really get going til after 11pm.

Enjoy the rainy days! I welcome them after endless days of straight sunshine in the summer 🙂
Come to think of it—after all the time I have spent in Greece—maybe a total of 2 months—I have never been rained out of an activity!
