Day and night the streets of Athens are bustling.  Elevate yourself from street level and enjoy the spectacular views of Athens from one of these rooftop bars.

A for Athens started the rooftop revolution in Athens.  For some reason, only a few of the classic Athens hotels had rooftop bars up until 2010ish.

Today there are all types of rooftop bars in central Athens ranging from casual hostel beer drinking bars to super swanky upscale cocktail bars.

A for Athens

Perched atop Monastiraki Square, A for Athens looks down on all of the A for Action.  Also a hotel, this landmark draws crowds year round.  Coffees during the day and libations in the evening – rain or shine!

Thea Terrace Bar

Located on the roof of the Central Hotel in Plaka, this is my go-to.  A few of my friends troll me because they see pictures of me standing in the same spot, on the same rooftop whenever someone is in town visiting.

I like this place because it is never over-crowded and the service is friendly and attentive.  Also, after a few cocktails, when the lights shine on the sides of the Acropolis, you can see the outline of a goat’s head.

The Zillers

A hidden boutique hotel with a roof terrace over-looking Acropolis.  The Zillers popped onto the scene recently and is on all of the trendy ‘Athens is the new (insert cool city here)’ lists.

I’ve only been during the day, so I can’t speak for the evenings, but I am guessing that is full of beautiful people enjoying the fabulous atmosphere.

Located next to TAF, you may miss this one because it just appears to be an empty bar on street level.  My first time here was when I was on the Athens Urban Adventures Twlight Tour and I asked the guide what it was because it looked sad and empty.  We walked in and realized there was an elevator going up to happier times.

AthenStyle

This hostel has one of the highest rooftop bars in Athens, so you can see Acroplis and Mount Lycabettus.  In the elevator on the way up, you will see a sign that reads, “No we don’t have wifi, get drunk and talk to each other.”  I like.

I definitely suggest getting up on one of these rooftops (or two) and getting a bird’s eye view of beautiful Athina.
