The longest stretch of sandy beach along the Alimos coast is known as Ακτή του Ήλιου/Akti tou Iliou -Costa del Sol. Bolivar Beach Bar is a part of this property and a popular destination for tourists staying in the center of Athens.
Why does it have so many different names? I do not know. To my understanding Akti tou Iliou is the entire beach which is broken down into different areas – Bolivar Beach Bar, Macaw Beach Bar and Akanthus/Nalu Beach. Each has it’s own personality/brand, but they all charge the same entrance fee and are under the same umbrella name of Akti tou Iliou.
Bolivar
Just a 15 minute car ride from the center, Bolivar is easily accessible by taxi or tram (approx 30 min) from the center of Athens. Once you enter this beach and get settled in your lounge chair, you will easily forget that you are in a European capital city.
Day
Bolivar’s entrance is a few steps from the Kalamaki tram stop, next to the Alimos public beach. The summer entrance fee is 5€ on weekdays and 8€ on weekends (sunbed included).
A few steps in and you soon realize that you are entering a totally different world than the streets of Athens. Whoever designed the architecture and landscaping at Bolivar deserves an A+. It is a tropical oasis on the Athens Coast, complete with tiki huts and a huge tiki bar.
As it is a private beach, the sand is cleaned daily and there are no beach peddlers selling things on the beach. The swimming area is roped off, so litter and debris stays out.
Night
Bolivar is a leader in summer night life along the Athens Coast. They bring in world class DJs and have events most nights in the summer. It truly is a memorable experience to party under the Greek night sky, with the moon reflecting off of the sea and the sand between your toes. I wouldn’t recommend heels for this venue.
Whether you are sipping afternoon mojitos while Bob Marley is playing on the speakers or dancing your ass off to electronic music at midnight, Bolivar will hold a special place in your summer memory bank.
